About SHOEGAZER (2009) Runtime: 18:08

A big short film about trust, standing up for yourself, and the magic of the night in the big city.

Written, Directed, Produced & Co-Edited by Amy Adrion

Peer Review‍ My UCLA thesis film, SHOEGAZER, is executive produced by Miranda July (ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW) with whom I had worked as an Assistant Director on her theatrical show THINGS WE DON’T UNDERSTAND AND DEFINITELY ARE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT that was performed in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City.  I worked under the guidance of my thesis advisor, the great editor and UCLA professor Nancy Richardson (TWILIGHT, DIVERGENT, STEP UP), and I had the opportunity to collaborate with Cinematographer Tobias Datum who went on to shoot THE MORNING SHOW and DOCTOR WHO, among many other films and TV credits.

SHOEGAZER was selected by a Blue Ribbon Panel of industry professionals including director Charles Burnett, director Catherine Hardwicke, producer Michael London, Sundance Programmer John Nein and director Alexander Payne to be one of 9 films screened at UCLA’s Director’s Spotlight.  The film also received UCLA’s Best Editing Award for myself and Co-Editor Karen Smalley.

SHOEGAZER went on to win the DGA Student Film Award Jury Prize in a ceremony that also awarded USC filmmaker Ryan Coogler for his thesis film FIG.  SHOEGAZER played at numerous film festivals, winning the Audience Award at the 360 | 365 Film Festival in Rochester, NY.
